MT365: Day 9

It’s going to be getting cold out and we haven’t really talked about swimming yet. It’s not a mistake. But, the waters certainly aren’t getting any warmer at this point. So, with the last fleeting canon balls and fruit-flavored beers of summer in mind, take yourself to the Salish-Kootenai Dam (formerly known as the Kerr Dam).

Located just a short drive from Polson, the Salish-Kootenai dam is a beast. In fact, it’s actually 54 feet taller than Niagara Falls, which sounds way better to say than “it’s 205 feet tall.” The dam is located on the Flathead River and serves as a source of hydroelectric power. But it also raised the level of the river by ten feet and allows for great recreational opportunities. Head to one of the many beaches that dot the waterside, rent a boat, barbecue some burgers and enjoy the crisp, late-summer air.
